The teacher training course offered by Om Yoga has been operational for 17 years under the auspices of Yoga Australia

It is a minimum 18 month  course taking into account additional time when Wendy is away for her own training in India and teaching retreats. 

The course includes:

  • 500 hours of contact training
  • practice teaching
  • assisting with a variety of different classes held at the school
  • home study and written assignments to be completed regularly over the training period
  • co-teaching  an 8 week Beginner’s Yoga Course
  • a final assessment to demonstrate the required level of knowledge in all the areas of study and the ability to communicate those skills in a teaching capacity to the wider public.

The training will cover the different  course modules and a full day teaching session will be  held  on Sundays  once a month. Participants are required to attend at least one general yoga class every week with Wendy as well as the  led practice session held on Sundays at 8:00-9:00am.

What You Will Learn

The  Teacher Training course gives the student a deep technical knowledge of the asanas taught in the Iyengar style of yoga, with attention to anatomical alignment and adapted for individual’s needs  with the use of props where required.

Learning to make adjustments for greater ease and safety is covered.  There are special classes for yoga for pregnancy, yoga for children, restorative yoga, yoga for healthy ageing,  and yoga therapy and the adaptions and different approach needed.

Pranayama (yogic breathing) , meditation, anatomy, yoga philosophy, yoga physiology (mudras, bandhas etc).  The  teachings of the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali are studied from the many translations available and time is allocated for in-depth discussion and endeavor to apply the teachings into our daily life.

Encouragement is given to focus on  spiritual evolvement with journalling and discussion time for this. The regular contact with a small number of students and the teacher, encourages openness and intimacy to dive deeper and uncover your own well of wisdom.

Your Teacher

Wendy Samek is the principal teacher and director of Om Yoga. She is a Senior Level 3 teacher with Yoga Australia registered to conduct a fully recognized and professional course of yoga training for prospective teachers of yoga.

Wendy has a long history of teaching from an ethical and wide  experience of classical yoga.  The many famous teachers she has  studied with and continues to do so,  is in line with the oral tradition of  passing on of the ancient  knowledge through a close connection with the teacher and guru. 

She has mentored students in Adelaide and overseas in Indonesia, and many today have their own successful yoga schools in different parts of Australia and the world.

What is required by any prospective student

  • You have studied yoga for at least 2 years and have developed a home practice.
  • You are available to attend the monthly weekend yoga training sessions.
  • Your attendance must be a regular condition to your decision to undertake the training.  There will be 1 weekend residential for presentations and  to practice and learn ayurvedic principles of diet and health practices.
  • To submit a short bio of yourself and your reasons for wishing to undertake this study and anything relevant about your health or injuries you may have.
  • As the number of participants is limited to a  small group, for reasons of desiring the highest standard of learning conditions, your application will receive Wendy’s careful and measured consideration.
  • There is a probationary period of 2 months for both student and teacher, where for whatever reason you may wish to withdraw and some reimbursement of the deposit may be made.

Fees and Payment

Fees are $3500 to complete the course within 2 years. For each additional month of training a $250 fee is payable.   

Further fees applicable over the training period are:

  • Class fees
  • Senior First Aid Certificate ( a requirement of Yoga Australia for registration)
  • Completing 36 hours of Anatomy, Physiology and Biomechanics for yoga teachers
  • Costs for a residential  teacher training weekend retreat attended by all current participants

Om Yoga requires a $500 deposit to begin the course and regular payments therafter.
